The Trampoline Orchestra are holding a concert that presents a selection of songs, routines and poetry expounding the art Musical Trampolining. All are welcome.
Developed in September 2007 as Hammer & Tongs, a first phase development of a new performance project aimed to explore the idea of using trampolines as musical instruments. By rigging sensors to a number of trampolines the group used each bounce to trigger samples, noises and notes, transforming themselve into a highly physical orchestra, intent on devising a unique set of audio-visual compositions.
Hammer & Tongs was produced via a research & development process at the Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster and shown at the Nuffield Theatre and at The Arches Live Festival, Glasgow in September 2007
One of the aims of the work was to devise a series of audio-visual compositions / abstract song & dances with a small company of performers. The interest for me was in the relationship between the sight and sound of the spectacle, of using a highly visual & physical means to generate music, sound, songs that could be very choreographed or completely chaotic.
This project aims to provide a strong ensemble piece. The company will be working together to generate a series of outcomes, strict choreographies, whereby everyone must bounce in specific sequence, as if they were working an individual key of a huge piano, so that each key has it’s place within the tune. At the same time indeterminacy is key, sequences that allow room for patterns to evolve & phase. Chaos, to order & back again.
Footage and details are taken from the work in progress in Autumn 07, further work will be carried out in early 2008 to fully refine and produce the finished production.
